News .. for the Year 2000
December 2000Christmas 2000 saw the scattering of the Smith family for the first time ever! Martin and Wendy spent Christmas in Townsville with Wendy's family, and Nicole and Kirsten met in Memphis USA for Christmas with Harvey's brother Graham and family, so the "oldies" decided to leave home too - we enjoyed another "first" - a catered seafood Christmas at Kingfisher Bay Resort on Fraser Island, with Harvey's sister Helen, and family.
Mmmmm .. those prawns, crabs, bugs and oysters were goood!! No preparing, no cooking, and no cleaning up either!! We could get used to that!!
Only Don could find the giant of all crabs, enough to feed us all, & then some ... ...
Time for "Cocktail of the Day" around the pool - of course we had to try one EVERY day!!
After 5 days in the luxury of the resort, we forsook the cocktails and joined the "other half" and spent another enjoyable 5 days camping up the East coast of Fraser Island.
The East Coast of Fraser is a "75 mile" beach, the whole length of which can be driven at low tide. Eli Creek is one of the highlights, occasionally checked out by the dingoes.
On up the top, and around Indian Head to Waddy Point and Orchid Beach.
Just over Indian Head is Champagne Pools - the tide coming in over the rocks bubbles into the Pools - great swimming spot!
December 23 20000 - off to USA and Mexico!Today Coley left London, and Kirsty flew out of Brisbane, both en route to meeting in Memphis, Tennessee for Christmas with Graham and family, and then 6 weeks backpacking through Mexico - read some of Coley's emails. December 20000 - engagement!Congratulations to Judy's nephew, Matthew Pickering, who announced his engagement to Jo Martyn in London on December 23. Jo's parents travelled from Sydney to London for the party, and it was great that Matthew's family could be represented by his cousin, Nicole.
October 1 2000Martin and Wendy's wedding day has finally arrived! Wendy was a beautiful and radiant bride, and Martin a very handsome and happy groom, and we were all very proud of them!
Nicole returned from London for the wedding, and Harvey's brother, Graham, flew in from Memphis, so we all enjoyed a very happy few days at Palm Meadows Resort with Rhonda and Gary Stephan, and all the Stephan family. Picture shows Nicole, Judy, Martin and Wendy, Harvey and Kirsty - the SMITH family! Martin and Wendy are pictured here with Wendy's parents Gary and Rhonda Stephan, sister Jodie (bridesmaid), brother Craig (behind Martin), and Wendy's relations from Aratula and Boonah in S.E. Queensland. September 27 2000The Sandersons were lucky enough to go to the Olympics and watch Cathy Freeman qualify for that GREAT 400m GOLD medal!
Jacelyn is a great Aussie supporter! Oi! Oi! Oi! September 10 2000The Ballandean community (near Stanthorpe, SE Qld) organised a Tree Planting Day on September 10 2000 to honour the original pioneers of the district by planting a tree representing each pioneer family. Harvey helped plant trees for the SMITH family (shown here), and for the RUEGG family.
August 10 2000Cynthia van Asch was awarded the Order of New Zealand Medal for her services to Hohepa Schools, and to Rudolph Steiner Education.
Cynthia van Asch (born 1907) is Judy's aunt, and lives in Christchurch, New Zealand. Cynthia flew to Wellington for her Investiture on August 10 2000.
