Next destination was Strahan, via the ugly mined lunar landscape of
Queenstown.
The Gordon River cruise from Starhan took us out to the well-named "Hells Gates", then back through MacQuarie Harbour. This picture shows the salmon farms on MacQuarie Harbour. The brave young guide showed us where the convicts on Sarah Island built the ships by standing in the freezing water on the Huon pine slipways! Pristine wilderness up the Gordon river. Not warm! Judy and Gary are well prepared! Approaching the Gordon River landing. First sight of Cradle Mountain. A meal fit for a king at Cradle Mountain Caravan Park - Lyn, Harvey, Harvey and Judy. Gary and Harvey do the dishes while Judy and Lyn discuss secret women's business! Walking around Dove Lake beneath Cradle Mountain. Closer up of the autumn colours of nonofagus cunninghamii - Tasmania's only deciduous native beech. Cradle Mountain slips through the cloud. Liffey Falls, en route to Longford. Grape vines, up the Tamar Valley, north of Launceston. A seahorse farm in the Tamar Valley. |
